It’s a set-up for the perfect sunday. It’s 65 and sunny. You go for a morning run, shower, throw the ladyfriend on the back of the motorcycle and head to Astoria for a few hours of delicious tastes, reading, and friends.
When my ladyfriend used to live in Astoria, we would go to the Queens Kickshaw all the time. It’s one of my favorite spots in the city; a thoughtful mash up of artistan coffee shop, grilled cheese spot, and craft beer/wine bar woven together in a labor of love by its owners, Ben and Jen. Admittedly, it’s been a few months since we last visited, but it made the experience of coming back all the sweeter.
We spent a good few hours feasting on their new, expanded menu. While it’s a vegetarian spot, their judicious use of cheese lets you forget about the existence of meat. The food is comforting, fresh, and heartfelt. Coupled with an awesome selection of cider and meade (yes, meade), and we were happy as could be, especially when Ben and Jen sent over some of their awesome bread pudding.
I’m going to make a point of it to not be so prodigal with our visits to the Kickshaw, especially with fall around the corner.
